Dr. Michael Cassell received his M.D. from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his residency at The Eye Foundation of Kansas City, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Cassell received his medical and surgical retinal fellowship from the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis Tennessee, where he assisted in over 1000 vitreoretinal cases.
Dr. Cassell's scholastic and professional life has been marked with several distinctions. His numerous awards include his appointment as a Presidential Scholar, receiving the Dr. Arthur Wesselink Award for Journalism, awarded by the Central College (Iowa) International Studies Program at Universidad de Granda, Spain. Dr. Cassell has been published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and co-authored "Glaucoma" in Emergency Ophthalmology: A Rapid Treatment Guide.
Board certified and fellowship trained in vitreoretinal medicine, Dr. Michael Cassell is a member of the physician team at Sabates Eye Centers newly formed Retina Center. Dr. Cassell is also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine.
